Atorvastatin blocks an enzyme (HMG-CoA-reductase) that is required in the body to make cholesterol. As a result, it lowers the level of cholesterol in the body. Metformin is an anti-diabetic medicine. It restores the body’s ability to use insulin, lowering the blood sugar levels. It also decreases the amount of glucose absorbed from food in the intestine and decreases glucose production in the liver.
